Is there any clinical evidence that Bontril is effective for weight loss?Bontril (phendimetrazine tartarate) has been studied extensively for its use as an effective appetite suppressant and weight loss medication. One such study, conducted by W. Harding Le Riche, M.D. concluded that there is no clear relation between the dosage of phendimetrazine and weight loss (Can Med Assoc J. 1962 Jul 7;87:29-31). What the study did find was that people with higher degrees of obesity experienced greater weight loss when taking phendimetrazine (Bontril) compared to people who had less body fat. This supports the claims that Bontril is an effective short-term weight loss medication when prescribed to individuals who are considered obese (Body Mass Index greater than 30).
